There was only one thing Vince really wanted for his birthday, to go camping with the boys. I think it’s a great idea, but I know my boys and how short their attention span is. I know that while the idea is novel in the beginning that Vince’s nerves would be fried just a few hours into the adventure. So, what to do? They planned the next best thing, a campout in the back yard. Vince had the boys all set for adventure and they hung onto every word with wide eyes as he gave them their marching orders. They cleared their campsite and scouted out their supplies. With one quick run to Walmart for a new tarp and some dogs and buns, they were ready. But Evan was a little off. He’s coming down with what Andrew had last weekend, yuck. The boys got the tent pitched and cut up some wood for the fire pit as I weeded the herb garden. All the while Evan was just laying around saying he was tired and he had a headache. Vince got the fire started and we roasted up some dogs (fire roasted dogs are my favorite kind right now). Evan said he needed to rest and wasn’t hungry, so he got into his pajamas and went to lay down in the tent. The rest of us enjoyed our dinner. After some firefly catching we were ready to roast some marshmallows, that perked Evan right up. He might not have been hungry for dogs but he was all over the mallows! I got Francesca into bed and headed out to clean up the campsite. Turns out that Andrew wasn’t quite ready to sleep outside, so he’s all tucked into bed. Evan decided that he would feel better if he slept outside tonight (I’m sure the dose of medicine helped). So Vince and Evan are tucked in under the stars for the night and I’ve got a bed to myself. Yum!
The Ducky has a birthday…
He’s THREE! Our little Ducky had a birthday today and I think he enjoyed it. We went to the park for what should have been a MOPS playdate, apparently I didn’t get the message that no one else was going! I guess I didn’t really need to stay up last night and make that batch of Rice Krispie treats… Well, we went anyway and took our neighbor friend, Jesse. The boys ran around and got really red-faced. Francesca monopolized the baby swing and this preggo-Momma was HOT. It was much hotter than I expected, even under the big shade trees. So our usually long park visit ended after about an hour. They seemed to be okay with that, they were hungry. Andrew asked for macaroni for his birthday dinner and I happily obliged since I just made a pot of gravy and had meatballs and such on hand. I tossed everything together and baked it with lots of mozzarella (HE LOVES HIS CHEESE) and there we had it, yum. He wanted a vanilla cake with chocolate frosting and sprinkles, he got just that and loved it! Although he only ate the frosting, didn’t even touch the cake! Unfortunately, the little guy is getting sick. His nose was running most of the day and he’s coughing. He got a swig of medicine before bed, hopefully he’ll feel better in the morning. As for his gifts… he got a little motorcycle toy (loves it), some sticky spiders (grosses me out but the boys love them) and a pirate accessory set, sword, gun and eye patches! Too cute, the boys were battling it out and Frncesca wore the eye patch, she can almost say “argh”. Evan is having a VERY hard time keeping his hands off of Andrew’s new things, but that was to be expected. That child needs to get over the fact that not everything in this house belongs to him.
Tomorrow we are going to try and meet Vince at the National Aquarium after his meeting. It’s been a while since we visited there. They’ve added new exhibits and as long as Andrew’s feeling better I’m sure they’ll have a blast. Nothing new on the house. We had a guy come out yesterday to take pictures for a virtual tour, no update on that though. I’ll post the link once we get it so you can check it out. Until then…
You won't believe this one…
So today I have a bunch of errands to run… orders to drop off, supplies to pass on, paper pin order completed and a Super Walmart run up in Hanover. We are just about in Hanover and Evan looks out the window and spots a McD’s and proceeds to say, “Mommy, can you go to McDonald’s to get me a snack, I’m REALLY hungry.” I couldn’t pass up the lure of the junk-food cheeseburger and happily obliged. Up at the window I order three happy meals, pay, pick up order, toss back a juice box to hold Evan over until I can pull into a spot and hand back his meal. So I am getting out of the van and a police car pulls up behind me, blocking me in. Hmmm… I wonder what’s up. As I begin to walk to the kids door the officer begins to address me, “Ma’am, we got a call from someone behind you that was concerned you may be driving while intoxicated.” Um, WHAT?!?!? “Have you been drinking?” Um, Sir it’s a rare occasion that I drink to begin with and besides that I am THREE months pregnant and I have three children in the van with me. I may be crazy, but I am not stupid! He looks a bit embarrassed to even be having this conversation with me, asks me my name and some info but does not ask for my license or anything else, even though I gladly offer it. “Maybe you were just reaching for something.” Sir I have three demanding kids in my back seat it’s very probable that I was reaching for something. He excuses himself, I pass Evan his meal and get back in the van and fight back hysterical laughter. After a minute of though I realize the busy-body that called me in must have been behind me as I was signing a couple of checks and writing out my deposit slip. My bad, I should know better than to try and multitask in the van. Besides it’s not like I went into the oncoming lane or something, maybe I skimmed the shoulder a bit but please, accusing me of being DRUNK. That was definitely a first for me. Still have to laugh about it. Even called Vince so he could share in the laughter.
Seriously people, this was a totally true story! I know I have you laughing too.
Monday, well, yeah, you know…
Okay, so maybe Monday isn’t exactly my favorite day. Does anyone else feel like the weekend is just a day or so short? Well anyway, it’s Monday but I was not quite ready to get back to the grind. I did get two loads of laundry folded (almost caught up after being away…) and the attempted to pack the littles up and head to the MOPS park date. We were late, but that is nothing new. It was a great day for the park not humid, nice breeze, just one problem… it was over-run by a summer day camp full of “big-kids”. It was all good until Francesca was heading to the top of the BIG slide and got cut off by a few big boys. NOT. NICE. I was good, didn’t say a word, just gave a good “Mom-look”. I was just so proud of her for going on the big slide all by herself, yup her brothers left her flat. We stayed for a while while I held my breath hoping Jeannette (real estate agent) would not call as I did not exactly leave the house in “showing condition”, oh well, clean house or busy kids, which would you choose? That’s what I thought. Vince was up in Staten Island today finding out exactly how small the big city really is. Me and the kids came home and took a nap, well, three out of four of us did. My friend Holly brought over my Tastfully Simple stuff, yum. Don’t think I didn’t want to bake up one of the mixes right then, but I abstained. Got the kids into bed around 8:30, yeah they defintley weren’t sleeping but they were in bed and that’s what counts. So I finally have a little time to update the blogs, enjoy!
