Not much going on and I am beat! Me and the kids spent the afternoon with my friend Jenn and her daughter Bella. According to my boys “Bella’s house is our favorite!” I went to get the crafting groove on with Jenn as she tries to finish up her stamped calendars. Of course with all my “stuff” packed in boxes I ended up leaving the things I needed at home. Figures. I knitted a little and got a few more rounds done on the shorts I started last night. We sat outside with the kids for a little and watched them climb the big rock (they LOVE that rock, it’s like their mountain). We went and played some air hockey too. Much fun! I got some pretty good pictures of some garden spiders and a swallowtail butterfly too (and yes I did take some pictures of the kids). Vince was up in NJ for most of the day so that was my cue for “leftover night” the little things that make me happy. However, I had promised Evan some “macaroni and beans” better known to the rest of the family as “Pasta e Fagioli” so I kept my word and made a small pot. He ate three bowls. When that boy eats, he eats. Now it’s veg-out time. Project Runway night, yeah. So back to my knitting I go!
Finished!!!
I finished the wool diaper. Yeah!!! Now Evan and Andrew want me to make them “pants made out of yarn.” How cute are they? Details on the diaper, a little over a skein of Patons SWS (soy wool stripes) in Natural Geranium. Love how the stripes came out perfectly. Francesca loves them and even got mad when I took them off to let them dry. When I finished knitting them and tried them on her I thought the were a bit big for her (she’s such a peanut) so I figured I’d let them felt a little. Well they felted more than I *planned* so they may not work as a functional diaper cover for her, but they are darn cute. I downloaded a couple of other patterns to try out, this time I’ll make the smaller size for her and avoid the “over-felting” as for the boys, we’ll see what I can find. Looks like my socks might never get done!
It can’t be over…
The weekend that is. I am TIRED! We haven’t completely recovered from VBS yet. Each night we got home around 9:30, waaaaay past each of the kids bedtimes. Luckily they were pretty good about going straight to bed each night. All the fun ended Friday night. We were exhausted! I think the kids were too. It was a blast though. Andrew did great in the preschool class with Evan (I think we’ll enroll him in Awana Cubbies this year). You should have seen him doing the dances during praise and worship each night, he was rockin’. Francesca hung out in the nursery with her two little girl friends and came upstairs to sing and dance during the finale each night, too cute and waaay too funny. I helped clean up the church yesterday so that the sanctuary would be ready for this morning’s service. Whew. I was beat.
Vince surprised me last night, he had recorded a few Audrey Hepburn movies for a relaxing at-home date night. Yeah! So we sat and got ready to see “Sabrina” together, and we were able to finally watch the movie after a few “visits” from stalling kids. After a stern threat they finally settled in. I love old movies. Especially with Audrey Hepburn. “Roman Holiday” is may favorite by far!
After church today all I wanted to do was rest. Can you blame me? After lunch I sat down to some knitting, which is what I’ve picked back up since I can’t get to my paper crafting for know. I am working on three projects, a crocheted baby blanket (that I started when I was pregnant with Cesca), a pair of socks (that I started on our trip to Ohio in June, that was my “on the road” project) and my latest experiment, a wool diaper cover. Yup, I can’t just work on one thing, I’d get bored. I started the diaper cover last night and I am a little more than half way done, so that is my “closest-to-completion” project for now. I am loving the yarn I got for it, a wool/soy blend. It’s so soft and is making a great striped pattern (pretty girly though since it’s mostly pinks). I’ll definitely share a picture of it finished in a few days.
Well, that’s about it. Gonna go watch Big Brother and get the photo blog updated. More soon.
Is it Monday already?
Whew, what a weekend. We’ve been going all weekend long. First of all my days are really starting to blend together, not sure what’s up with that. I finally got around to working on those tomatoes on Saturday. What a process! I would definitely do it again though. I was able to get 4 quarts of crushed tomatoes and basil and 2 pints of tomato puree. All 4 quarts sealed too! The little things that make this girl happy. I froze the puree since I didn’t have pint jars. Should be yummy when we use it. Next year I definitely want to do more tomatoes though, this batch came from just two plants. Any volunteers to help? I’ll pay in tomatoes… With all the work to do it I figure I might as well make more to show for it! But aren’t they cute anyway? (The fingers on the edge of the picture are Andrew’s)
After I got my canning done Vince and I started going through the garage to list the damaged items. NOT. FUN. Vince about got sick when I opened my portfolio and found three finished pieces and my portrait sketchbook that had gotten ruined (the rest of the content s were assorted sheets of handmade paper, also ruined but not heartbreaking). I assured him that I was okay and wouldn’t have a breakdown, I couldn’t really say the same for him. I told him as long as our wedding negatives, other film pictures and our Navy portraits were safe I was okay, everything else could be replaced.
Yesterday was the Carnival to kick of Vacation Bible School. The theme this year is Fiesta! It should be fun. The kids had a blast at the carnival. Lots of games and goodies and a pinata to finish it up. Yup, loads of sugar. I have to admit the cotton candy machine made me happy, as did the popcorn machine. Francesca jumped around in the moon-bounce for the first time, but spent most of the day staying cool up on the front porch of the church (smart girl). Andrew knocked himself out and napped half the afternoon inside the church! Evan played and ate candy until we got him in the car, where he gets his energy, I just don’t know. The weather was great (it has been most of this week) but the sun was stronger than I expected and I came home with my first sunburn of the season!
Today I need to do laundry. I was putting it off last week and now it’s shouting my name! Vince is up in NJ for work today and tonight is the first official night of VBS. It runs from six until nine each night so I am going to have to convince the boys to rest each afternoon, wish me luck!
