Firstly, I am so sorry for the loss of your daughter. As for the invitations, my first instinct is to write something along the lines of "Join us as we remember..." I certainly understand the apprehension to 'happy' but I do hope that through the celebration of her life that there are moments of joy amidst the sorrow and that those that are invited can truly embrace the bitter-sweetness of the occasion.

I"m hosting a small celebration party for what would be my daughter's 18th birthday, it will only have been 6 minths since she passed but we don't want to let her birthday pass.

I was looking for some ideas on how to word the front of the invites? 'Happy' doesn't seem appropriate! :-(

Thank you

I love the tradition you have! Absolute the worst to lose a child!!!
I have since my grandad (on my fathers side) died in 1982, every year on his birthday hosted our whole family, who were able to come. We are having his favorite meal and we remember everyone in our family that have passed away. The list has gotten quite long during the years, but we all feel good remembering everyone of them and sharing stories. It is also the only time in the year we are all together. Like this - even the kids, who don't know everyone we are talking about, get some knowledge of all the familymembers that came before. Our day is the 22nd of december, very close to christmas, but still familymembers who can afford it fly in from all over the world. I feel blessed that we have been able to keep it up for so many years even when we were without the big means to do it, but then everybody helped with what they could!! Family traditions are very important and so good for the kids and the rest of us to remember we are a family and we will not be forgotten. Love Mai-Britt
