Artwork for a lost loved one, whether created by or gifted to you, touches deeply.
I’ve dabbled in creative endeavors since I was a little girl and in the year since we’ve lost Miranda I’ve gone back to exploring various modes of art.
Day 27 of Capture Your Grief: Share artwork made by you or someone else for your baby.
This painting was gifted to me by a very creative friend for Christmas. It’s bright and lovely, and it makes me smile to see it.
It hangs in our girls’ bedroom over the place where Miranda’s crib would be.
It seems fitting that a reminder of her resides in the room she should have shared with her sisters.
I am a knitter. But after knitting her layette that would never be worn I just could not easily go back to knitting when every ounce of me knew I should be knitting baby things instead of items for me. My spinning wheel and most of my knitting sat for many months without being touched with the exception of the shawl I knitted for the ACD fundraiser.
I’ve slowly begun knitting again, but it is still very bittersweet.
I stumbled upon an online art class this winter that helped me explore a media that allowed for much healing. I’ve enjoyed the opportunity to freely draw and write to create works that speak what my heart is feeling.
You don’t need to be a gifted artist to create something in memory of your lost loved one. You can create a photo collage, frame memorabilia, press flowers, or plant a memorial garden.
Taking time to create something with your hands is therapeutic.

For each day of the month during October (Pregnancy/Infant Loss Awareness) bereaved parents are encouraged to share their journey through photographs as a way to share the healing process.
